The policemen moved into the area. Taxi drivers targeted

Police inspections still reveal a number of irregularities. Not all taxi platforms have cut off access to drivers without a Polish driving license. What is the road situation like?

New regulations vs. reality

There was supposed to be an end to wild driving, due to the new regulations that came into force on June 17. Recall that the new law requires every person employed to transport people to have a Polish driving license. Due to these restrictions, some drivers should no longer provide this type of service at all. What is the reality?

Every fourth driver does not have the required driving license

According to data, every fourth driver transports passengers without having the appropriate license. Rzeczpospolita and the website money.pl revealed that not all taxi companies have cut off access to drivers without the required Polish driving license. Uber has the biggest problem with this. The company explains the different interpretation of the regulation – it applied an immediate block to newly employed people, and has until September 17 to verify the remaining drivers.

The Chief Road Transport Inspectorate does not agree with this interpretation of the new law. Police statistics also reveal that many drivers still drive “illegally”. Out of 65 inspections carried out last week, every fourth driver did not have the required document.

In Warsaw, inspections also showed that every tenth driver did not have a taxi license at all. There were also extreme cases (fortunately, individual ones) in which the driver drove without a license and without a Polish driving license.

Let us recall that the new taxi law was developed under the previous government. It was supposed to be a response to abuses, including cases of harassment, committed by drivers.
