The PESEL revolution is materializing. Key date: June 1
Bank Millennium is already ready for the final stage of implementing the system, which, after blocking the PESEL number, is intended to protect Poles against fraud and extortion. Other banks should start doing so in June.
Bank Millennium has already boasted that it has introduced it PESEL number verification system. The solution is intended to prevent unauthorized access to bank accounts and taking out loans using other people's data.
Bank Millennium, through a direct connection with the register of the Ministry of Digitization, will be able to check people's data submitting applications for loans or credits. It will also verify the PESEL number if the client wants tocreate a personal account or savings, as well when withdrawing cash in bank branches when the amount exceeds three times the minimum wage.
Integration of government and banking systems will also impact operation of the mobile application Millennium, which is why the bank encourages its customers to update it. Thanks to this, users will be able to take full advantage of the new security measures and ensure greater security in electronic banking.
The bank reassures that it is ready for various situations that may affect the convenience of customer service. For example, if a customer has reserved his or her PESEL number and a given banking activity requires its unblocking, he or she will be able to do so change it on the spot in the mObywatel application.
The system starts in all banks on June 1
Let's remind. In accordance with the new legal regulations, from June 1 this year, all financial institutions they will have verification obligationwhether the client's PESEL number has been restricted in the register of PESEL number reservations kept by the Ministry of Digitization.
The new law is effective from November 17 – from that date you can reserve your PESEL number. However, we had to wait a while for the next stages to be implemented. From January 2024 you can register your PESEL number also in the mObywatel application (previously only through the web-based mObywatela or at the commune office), but only on June 1, 2024 will we see the most important element of the puzzle. From this date, banks and other financial institutions must check the status of your PESEL number before concluding the contract.
The possibility of reserving the PESEL number is intended to minimize the risks associated with frequent personal data leaks. Criminals use stolen information, including the PESEL number, for example: take out loans on behalf of their victims or enter into telecommunications contracts. Thanks to the new implementation. if someone tries to take out a loan or credit using a proprietary PESEL number, the system will lock automatically such an operation, stopping the operation.
