The new version of GeForce RTX 4070 is coming. The specification is surprising
NVIDIA is preparing a new version of the GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card. This was forced by the recent supply problems with GDDR6X memory.
A few days ago I wrote that the availability of some NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 graphics cards may be worse in the coming months. This applies primarily to the GeForce RTX 4070 model. The problems are caused by a faulty batch of GDDR6X memory, which did not pass quality tests and was returned to Micron. For this reason, the Greens are preparing a new version of the RTX 4070.
New version of GeForce RTX 4070
Interesting information on this subject was provided by MEGAsizeGPU, a well-known name in the industry, which is the source of many rumors. We learn from him that NVIDIA is preparing a new version of the GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card. This one will be equipped with different VRAM, so this way the company will avoid the problems with GDDR6X modules.
The problem is that the new version of the RTX 4070 will be worse. Instead of GDDR6X memory, NVIDIA will use GDDR6 20 Gbps modules. It’s worth recalling that the GPU uses 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory by default, so the bandwidth will also drop from 504 to 480 GB/s. The rest of the specs will remain the same.
The 24 GB/s lower bandwidth will definitely translate into worse performance. The difference shouldn’t be huge, but it will definitely be noticeable. It’s not certain when, at what price, and in which markets the new model will debut. It’s possible that it won’t be available globally, but only where the availability of the standard version will be the most limited.
