The new Raspberry Pi is coming. There are first clues
The latest entry on GitHub reveals not only that the Raspberry Pi Foundation is preparing to release new hardware, but also reveals some secrets about the specifications.
Raspberry Pi is a single-board computer that has been on the market since 2012 and has been a success all over the world. “Malinka” even people who are not usually interested in new technologies associate it. However, the British offer not only SBC, but a number of other proposals
Raspberry Pi 500 is to use a system we are familiar with
It went on sale in 2020 Raspberry Pi 400i.e. computer-keyboard. It was based on a model Raspberry Pi 4which, thanks to extensive cooling, was factory overclocked (so-called OC) and offered 20% higher clock speeds. And it looks like that the next generation is coming to the market.
You can see an entry in the Raspberry Pi GitHub repository for the operating system “arch/arm64/boot/dts/broadcom/bcm2712-rpi-500.dts”. This doesn’t just suggest an upcoming release Raspberry Pi 500but also the use of SoC in the form of Broadcom BCM2712 known from Raspberry Pi 5.
Unfortunately, there are no details about the specifications. Looking at its predecessor, however, we can safely assume at least 4 GB of RAMtwo USB 3.2 Gen 1, one USB 2.0, two HDMI, a microSD card reader, an RJ-45 port and a USB Type-C power connector. Inside the housing there should also be hidden GPIO for enthusiasts.
The issue of cooling remains a mystery. In the Raspberry Pi 400, we had an aluminum sheet extending over the entire internal part of the housing. But The Broadcom BCM2712 is a warmer systemand Rapsberry Pi 5 requires active cooling. The presence of a fan is therefore possible.
The release date and suggested prices remain unknown. Currently, the price of its predecessor in Poland is approximately PLN 359. Therefore, it should be assumed that here it will also be slightly below PLN 400.
