The iPhone 15 Pro Max takes first place in a DXOMARK ranking

According to DxOMark, the iPhone 15 Pro Max outperforms all its competitors in its front camera performance, including its older sibling, the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

After our iPhone 15 Pro Max review, DXOMARK’s selfie camera performance analysis reveals that while the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max share similar features – a front-facing camera 12 megapixels with f/1.9 aperture, a 1/3.6 inch sensor, autofocus and optical stabilization – the iPhone 15 Pro Max does much better than all the smartphones on the market.

The notable differences are attributable to the image processor (ISP, the image signal processor) of the Apple A17 Pro. This chip optimizes the processing of captured images, thus providing superior visual quality.

The best front camera on the market

The front camera of the iPhone 15 Pro Max therefore proves to be a major competitor on the market, fortified by technical improvements which optimize its performance compared to previous models, in particular the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The new mount proudly positions itself at the top of the smartphone rankings, with a performance rated at 149 points by DxOMark.

The 15 Pro Max’s selfie camera is distinguished in particular by good exposure, fast and precise autofocus, a wide dynamic range and detailed reproduction in strong light situations. You will also appreciate the video stabilization which ensures stable recordings, even in motion.

However, it is essential not to neglect certain points despite everything. The sensor, although small – which favors a large depth of field – induces visible noise in the images, even in ideal lighting conditions. One may also observe color errors and sharpness fluctuations during video capture.

Finally, when using portrait mode, the Face ID module performs a precise depth calculation, allowing you to create a background blur effect (or bokeh) progressive and natural. However, this technology has limitations, especially when it comes to rendering fine details such as hair. These limitations can make the portrait effect appear artificial upon close inspection of the image.
