The government is changing the requirements for TVs and decoders
Currently, there is still a regulation in force according to which every TV set and decoder that can be connected to the Internet must support hybrid TV, i.e. HbbTV. The problem is that there are few such decoders on the market. Canal+ even had to withdraw the Box 4K model from sale. It was restored only after the digital terrestrial TV tuner was removed.
Therefore, consultations aimed at changing the regulations have been ongoing since the summer. The Ministry of Digitization revealed that the work is almost completed.
Work on the regulation on technical and operational requirements for television signal receivers is at the final stage – the document is currently being analyzed by the legal commission after the conclusion of arrangements, consultations and opinions.
– revealed the ministry in an interview with Wirtualne Media.
According to the new regulations, the requirement to support HbbTV hybrid television will apply only to devices that have their own screen, i.e. televisions. Set-top boxes will be exempt from this obligation. The change is caused by a detailed analysis and the position expressed by, among others, telecommunications chambers and the National Broadcasting Council.
