The government has decided on electricity prices in 2025. The price thaw is coming

The Ministry of Climate and Environment has prepared a draft bill that will slowly prepare the country for the end of freezing electricity prices. The Act provides that the maximum electricity price will be maintained only for households.

PLN 500 per MWh only for households

Upper limit of electricity prices for households will be maintained at PLN 500 per MWh. The limit is to apply until December 31, 2025. Without government intervention, households would pay approximately PLN 623 per MWh – this is the average price of electricity in the G tariff group, approved by the end of 2025.

The limit remains, but there will be no additional support in the form of an energy voucher. Further freezing of the maximum electricity price for households will cost the budget approximately PLN 5 billion. We managed to secure the appropriate amount in the budget for 2025.

The limit will not apply to other recipients, including companies, local governments, hospitals, educational institutions and others. The government expects their situation to improve compared to 2023-2024. The frozen price will limit their ability to use market mechanisms, including negotiating electricity prices individually. In extreme cases, this may have the opposite effect to that intended – entities would pay more, not less.

What next with electricity prices in Poland?

The Ministry of Climate is already working on a systemic solution that will apply from January 1, 2026. The government assumes that from this date there will be no need to freeze energy in Poland. Government interference will no longer be desirable provided there is no further crisis in the electricity market.

The Ministry of Climate and Environment does not yet provide any information about the new solution. It may be income-based support, and changes in tariffs are also possible.
