The foldable iPhone will put Samsung to shame. Battery
A record-breaking link in a foldable iPhone
The foldable smartphone market is developing dynamically, but Samsung is stagnant when it comes to power supply. The latest leaks suggest that the first foldable iPhone will receive a battery with a capacity of up to 5,500 mAh. This is a value that outclasses a large part of the competition in this segment, especially the Korean one. Galaxy Z Fold7 uses a 4400 mAh cell, which has not changed for quite a long time.

The difference is visible to the naked eye. Even Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers users 5015 mAh, and Chinese manufacturers install batteries exceeding 6500 mAh in their “folds”. Apple, entering this market with a delay, intends to immediately take the leading position in terms of operating time on a single charge.
Samsung has been standing still for years
The problem of low capacity does not only apply to the Fold series. Models from the Galaxy S Ultra line have been stuck at 5000 mAh for a long time. In the past, the iPhone was mocked for its poor battery life, but the situation has changed. The iPhone 17 Pro Max “eSIM only” has a 5088 mAh battery, which means that Apple has already overtaken Samsung also in classic flagships.

Previous reports indicate that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will probably follow the pattern of its predecessors and will not offer a larger battery. Explanations about the lack of space in the housing or legal regulations are no longer credible when you look at the competition’s specifications.
Will competition force technological changes?
History shows that Samsung often introduces significant changes only under pressure from its biggest rival from the USA. This was the case with controversial decisions such as removing the headphone jack or charger from the box. Now this mechanism can work to the benefit of customers.
Apple’s entry into the segment of foldable devices with such a large battery may be the impulse the Koreans need. Although Galaxy Z Fold8 may not bring a revolution yet, Galaxy Z Fold9 has a real chance to break the 5000 mAh barrier. The technology already exists, and the market clearly shows that users want longer runtimes, not just a slim form factor.
