The Famous Smartphone Maker Changed the Industry: Here’s What It’s Doing Now
Meizu once tried to conquer the world of smartphones, but lost to Xiaomi and Huawei. Now the manufacturer has found itself in a completely new industry. It’s electric cars.
Meizu he used to have ambitions to conquer the world of smartphones. The brand was mentioned in the same row as such market giants as Huawei and Xiaomi, but it only lasted a moment. When those companies were growing, Meizu was slowly losing market share. Outside of China, it was really hard to buy the manufacturer’s phones. In Poland, their distributor was MaxCom.
Meizu DreamCar MX is the new incarnation of Meizu
In the end, despite some really interesting devices and a good start (you can recall a Windows phone that looked like iOS), Meizu lost. The company’s share of the Chinese market pie fell below 1%, and Meizu stopped making phones. However, this was not the end of the company as such.
Before the brand was bought by Geely. It is a very large and important player in the car market. It is owner of, among others, Volvoand in Poland he had/has build Izera. It was therefore obvious that the new incarnation of Meizu would be related to Geely’s core industry.
Now Meizu will present its first electric car. This will be Meizu DreamCar MX. There will be no shortage of the interface known from old Meizu phones. We will see there FlymeOS. Previously, Meizu allowed fans of the brand and potential customers to decide on the future of the new car. They chose colors, personalization options and design. It is very similar to another Geely model – Lynk & Co Z10.
Of course, Geely factories will produce the new car. All this was announced by Liao Qinghong from Meizu during ChinaJoy 2024. The Chinese electric car market is indeed very large, but also very crowded. In addition to Geely, there are many different large manufacturers. The Chinese from Baic and BYD, as well as Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, are competing there.
