The dumbest driver of the year? Oh my god, this is off the charts

He found a way to avoid a speed camera ticket. A method so naive that it went viral. What’s more, now the creative driver will pay not only a speeding fine, but also damages and spend some time in prison.

Drivers have come up with hundreds of tricks to avoid being caught by a speed camera, including spraying their license plates with hairspray. But a 20-year-old Frenchman in Châlons-en-Champagne has beaten that trick by several lengths.

The young man was supposed to have broken the 90 km/h limit and was driving at exactly 156 km/h when he suddenly noticed the flash. Wanting to avoid punishment, he decided to damage the device and ultimately exposed himself to accusations not only of property destruction but also attacking officers. Apart from the earlier reckless driving, of course.

According to the police version of events, the driver stopped the car on the hard shoulder and then completely destroyed the speed camera. First, he ripped off the cover and cut the wiring, and then he set it on fire. He did all of this with the help of his 18-year-old passenger.

The thing is that the photo had already been uploaded to the server, and the built-in alarm had additionally notified the nearby officers. They arrived on the scene in a flash. But that was not the end of it, because the perpetrator of the commotion, fleeing at the last moment, allegedly hit two intervening police officers.

Within a few hours he was still in handcuffs, but with a large number of charges, for which he answered in an expedited procedure. He was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment, 2 of which were suspended. The woman accompanying him will serve 8 months. Both will pay compensation to the officers who were hit.
