MediaTek Dimensity

the chip that takes from the rich to give to the poor

MediaTek begins to renew its offer in affordable chips with the Dimensity 6100+. The first of the Dimensity 6000 line, this new SoC incorporates several technologies and features once reserved for much higher-end processors. And good news, it will arrive on the market very soon.

The idea of integrating features from higher-end models into a lower-tier chip is not new, but MediaTek shows us with its new Dimensity 6100+ that it has mastered the subject well. The first reference in the Dimensity 6000 line, this new chip aims to offer as many people as possible better display quality, more advanced AI photo capture technology and 5G sub-6 GHz connectivity… all at “ an affordable price “, assures the brand, which has more ideas with this new SoC.

As Android Central points out, the Dimensity 6100+ is mainly aimed at users who have not yet migrated to a 5G smartphone. To address these users, the chip is equipped in particular with an improved 5G modem, supporting the 3GPP Release 16 standard, while having MediaTek’s UltraSave 3.0+ technology. As part of 5G connectivity, the latter theoretically reduces energy consumption by 20% compared to competing chips.

Dimensity 6100+: a balanced chip

In terms of performance, however, the Dimension 6100+ is two steps behind the Dimensity 7000 chips launched last year. There are 2 high performance ARM Cortex-A76 cores and 6 high energy efficiency Cortex-A55 cores. This configuration notably allows the chip to offer effective AI processing on photos, especially since these ARM cores are supported by a module developed in collaboration with Arcsoft.

The latter will in particular provide better colors for shots as well as a more faithful bokeh (background blur) effect on portraits and selfies. In terms of the sensors themselves, we also learn that the Dimensity 6100+ will be able to manage up to a 108 Mpx photo sensor, while supporting video recording in 2K at 30 FPS.

For the rest, the new entry-level chip from MediaTek will bring better image quality to the screens of future affordable smartphones, thanks to support for 10-bit technology, so far mainly installed on board. premium chips. With this compatibility, the Taiwanese manufacturer explains that its new SoC can reproduce more than a billion colors for ” vibrant images and videos “. We finally learn that the Dimensity 6100+ will support 90 and 120 Hz refresh rates.

As for the launch of this new processor, it is expected somewhere in the third quarter of 2023… in other words shortly. It is not known, however, which will be the first smartphone to be equipped with it.
