Surface Laptop Studio 2 and Laptop Go 3

Microsoft lifted the veil on its new Surface range during its conference in New York. On the program: a powerful Laptop Studio 2 and an ultra-autonomous Laptop Go 3.

Microsoft announced its new Surface line at its conference in New York today. However, the surprise was not there since, like Apple, all the information on these two new machines leaked last week. This official announcement therefore allows us to confirm their technical sheets and above all, their price.

Surface Laptop Studio 2: the flagship with timid developments

It was the star of the conference: the Surface Laptop Studio 2 continues the momentum of the first model released in 2021 with updated features. In terms of components, we find a 13th generation Intel processor, the Raptor Lake H offered in an Intel Core i7-13700H and i7-13800H variant. This will be the first Surface device to offer up to 64 GB of LPDDR5X RAM.

The screen remains unchanged with its diagonal of 14.4 inches for a definition of 2400 x 1600 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz. PixelSense technology is still there, for optimized use of the stylus on the monitor. In terms of graphics card, we will also jump a generation with the choice offered between the RTX 4050 (6 GB of video memory) or 4060 (8 GB of video memory) depending on the model chosen. Microsoft here promises graphics performance that can double that of a MacBook Pro M2 Max, particularly in terms of video and 3D rendering speed. And if you ever want to save on the final bill, and your performance, you can also opt for the integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU.

Finally, if we stay on the same chassis on the previous model, Microsoft has corrected some faults criticized in this first version. In addition to the two Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4 compatible USB-C ports, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 now sports a MicroSD card reader and a USB-A port. We deplore the choice of MicroSD here while many professionals use full format SD cards. In an effort to achieve accessibility, the machine’s touchpad accommodates a haptic and adaptive feedback engine for disabled people who have difficulty using a mouse.

Microsoft plans to release this new machine on October 3, 2023 from 2,239 euros on the Microsoft Store.

Surface Laptop Go 3: small but strong.

Microsoft has also played the security card with its new Surface Laptop Go 3, the compact and much less expensive laptop in the Surface range. We therefore remain with the same proven design, with the arrival of two new colors (Gold and Blue). The screen is the same with a diagonal of 12.4 inches and a definition of XX. It is especially inside that we note some technical updates.

Surface Laptop Go 3 features the Intel Core i5-1235U CPU accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD. Here, there is no possibility of configuring the machine with more powerful specifications, but like its predecessor you can opt for a version with 4 GB of memory (which we do not recommend) and 128 GB of SSD storage. Microsoft promises up to 15 hours of battery life and “88% higher” performance, promises that obviously need to be verified in person. The release is scheduled for October 3, 2023 for a minimum price of 800 euros on the Microsoft Store.
