Sony is preparing a new feature for PlayStation 5. Players have been waiting for it

Sony is reportedly preparing a new feature for PlayStation 5 that should appeal to gamers, especially older ones.

Older gamers, I count myself among them, sometimes want to play productions from several years ago that they played at a younger age. Most often, we remember them much better than it turns out in reality, but sometimes returning to the past is a nice diversion. PlayStation 5 may soon allow this, officially.

PlayStation 3 games on PlayStation 5

Shpeshal Nick from the XboxEra podcast reported that, according to his sources, Sony is working on a new feature for PlayStation 5. It’s about backward compatibility with PlayStation 3 games. Thus, the console would officially allow games that were released a dozen or so years ago. Today it is also possible, but not in a native way. Instead, retro productions are run in the cloud, which does not always translate into the best experience.

At the same time, Shpeshal Nick was unable to determine what games would be backwards compatible, but These will almost certainly be first-party productions, i.e. created directly by Sony. For the Japanese, this will be the easiest to understand because it will not require cooperation with external companies.

It also remains an open question whether PlayStation 3 games will receive any visual improvements, e.g. higher resolution support. This alone would improve the graphics a bit, which can be a bit clumsy today, but that’s no surprise, after all, we’re talking about titles that were created a dozen or so years ago. We also know that PS3 games that will be available on PS5 will likely receive a separate category in the official PlayStation store.
