PlayStation 5 did not have an easy launch. It is true that the console was launched during the pandemic, when many people were looking for ways to entertain themselves at home, but a moment later there was a crisis on the semiconductor market. In addition, there was the war in Ukraine and another crisis in the form of a huge increase in inflation. Despite this, PS5 sales are good.
PlayStation 5 sales
Sony’s financial report shows that PlayStation 5 has already sold 65.5 million units worldwide. These are data until September 30, 2024, so they are certainly even better today. PS5 is slightly behind its predecessor, as PlayStation 4 boasted 67.7 million units sold in the same period.
Despite this, Sony has reasons to be satisfied. PlayStation 5 is already the 8th most popular stationary console in history, ranking above the NES. If we take all consoles into account, including portable ones, PS5 is in 13th place, just behind Nintendo 3DS (75.94 million copies).
I wonder how the premiere of PlayStation 5 Pro will affect the results. Although many players express dissatisfaction with the new version of the device, mainly due to the high price, we can suspect that sales will increase.
