What is The Tattooist and Auschwitz about?
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is the story of Lali (Jonah Hauer-King), a Slovak Jew who in 1942 was deported to Auschwitz – a concentration camp where over a million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust.
Shortly after arriving at the camp, Lali is assigned the role of “Tätowierer” – one of the tattoo artists responsible for putting identification numbers on the arms of fellow prisoners. One day he meets Gita (Anna Próchniak), on whose arm he tattoos a prison number.
Lali and Gita fall in love with each other at first sight – this is the beginning of a brave and unforgettable story of these two. The couple is constantly watched over by an unpredictable SS officer, Baretzki (Jonas Nay), and is determined to protect each other and survive together.
