Santander is closing this service. You will feel the change on the hotline
Santander is discontinuing one of the services that bank customers have been using. It will be replaced by a more traditional solution.
Santander Bank has been offering voice biometrics identification for several years. It was a fairly unique solution that is becoming a thing of the past, reports Cashless.pl. Santander’s press office confirmed that voice identification will be replaced by a more traditional solution.
Santander abandons voice identification
Voice biometrics was a unique solution on the Polish market. Initially, customers had to repeat a specific sentence several times for the voice sample to be saved. In subsequent calls to the hotline, they did not have to provide any PIN number. The customer number and repetition of the phrase were enough.
Santander Bank has confirmed that voice biometrics will no longer be used. Instead, customers will identify themselves via a mobile app.
The bank is constantly adapting its identification methods to modern security standards, monitoring market trends and improving customer experience. We will soon offer customers new identification methods based on a mobile application, which will replace the currently used method based on biometric voice sample verification.
– the Santander press office reported.
The bank did not disclose why it was abandoning voice identification. However, we can assume that in the era of artificial intelligence, this is not a solution that is considered safe. Today, it is very easy to fake a voice, and thus cheat banking systems. Confirming identity using a mobile application should be much safer.
