price, release date and details on Sony’s ‘handheld console’, PS5 accessory
Briefly presented a few months ago, what we called Project Q is arriving in stores at the end of the year. This is the PlayStation Portal, a controller with a screen that allows you to stream your games to your PS5 at home.
Update August 31, 2023: PlayStation Portal will launch on November 15just before the crucial end-of-year holiday season.
Last May, after months of rumours, Sony presented the ” Project Q “. Half controller, half portable console, this device allows you to stream your games from your PlayStation 5 to play them at home: even in your toilet, that is. This August 23, Sony announces the availability of what it officially calls PlayStation Portal (not to be confused with PlayStation Portable). Arrival expected in a few months, with a slightly high bill: 220 euros.

At the same time, Sony announces a pair of wireless headphones, the Pulse Explore, as well as a new PlayStation headset, the Pulse Elite.
The DualSense experience retained in the PlayStation Portal
What Sony especially highlights is the fact that the experience of the PlayStation 5 controller, the DualSense, is preserved on the PlayStation Portal. Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, everything is there a priori, in order to guarantee good immersion.

This is noticeable at the controller level: it looks like Sony created a Nintendo Switch by replacing the Joy-Con with two halves of DualSense. However, it is impossible to separate these parts of the controller from the screen. As for the screen, it is an 8-inch LCD panel offering 1080p definition and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. For audio, there is a 3.5 mm jack port, a wireless connection. PlayStation Link wire with the brand’s headsets and accessories, but no Bluetooth.
220 euros: this is the amount you will have to pay to play your PlayStation 5 in bed
With its wireless streaming technology, Sony intends to allow PlayStation 5 players to deport their screen wherever they want. In fact, PlayStation Portal broadcasts what the PlayStation 5 displays via your Wi-Fi network. The goal is to enjoy it anywhere at home, in any room, without needing to move your console. This is reminiscent of the Wii U GamePad controller. As with the PS Remote Play application for Android or iPhone, it will also be possible to play outside the home, as long as the device is connected to Wi-Fi. -Fi. Everything will then depend on your connection.
Also note: not all games are supported by this technology. For example, PS VR2 games cannot logically be streamed. What is especially unfortunate is that the games launched in cloud gaming via PlayStation Plus Premium cannot be streamed on PlayStation Portal, via PlayStation 5 or not.
At a price of 219.99 euros, The PlayStation Portal will be launched on November 15just before the crucial end-of-year holiday season.
