Polish Post Guide. If you see something like this, react

Poczta Polska warns on its website not only not to fall for the most popular scams, but also not to be indifferent and report them to the appropriate number.

Fraudsters will not spare any institution. They take advantage of Poles’ trust in postal workers and use perfidious methods. All this to rob people as effectively as possible. They have an increasing range of channels to reach Poles – by phone, via the Internet and text messages.

Seniors under fire

Fraudsters are most likely to choose seniors as their victims who believe most in the good name of Poczta Polska. This is how a resident of Bydgoszcz was recently deceived. The woman received a phone call from a man who identified himself as an employee of this institution. The caller extorted her address and then called again, this time pretending to be the one Police Commander. He manipulated the woman so much that she believed she was under surveillance by the gang. She withdrew her savings and, at the officer’s request, left her in a designated place. In this way, she lost PLN 15,000. But that wasn’t the end of the scam. There was also a loan which exaggerated the losses. Worst of all, the criminal escaped and was not caught.

To prevent this type of crime, Poczta Polska has prepared a guide on how to protect yourself against them and where to report attempts of this type of fraud.

Postman method 1

This is exactly what happened to a resident of Bydgoszcz. The criminal calls the victim, pretending to be a postman of Poczta Polska (note, sometimes he gives the real name and surname of the postman from a given area) and asks for the correct delivery address for the registered letter from the bank. Once the criminal has this information, the following occurs another call – this time from the police. Next, we will hear a story about a gang and endangered money that needs to be brought to a specific place.

The postman method 2

Scammers first they call the victim, pretending to be postmen, and inform them that the parcel will be delivered today. In a moment, they will call again, pretending to be policemanwho is investigating the “postman fraud” case. They conduct the conversation in such a way that they obtain information about the valuables and money the victim has at home. After some time, alleged a policeman shows up at the victim’s house and enters claiming that he has come to secure endangered cash or valuables. After entering the apartment, he intimidates the victim and robs him.

Internet fraud

There is a lot of scope for fraudsters here. The most popular are:

  • On pallets (offer to purchase pallets with alleged shipments that are in stock at a promotional price);
  • For the lottery (possibility to win a prize for a few zlotys);
  • For customs surcharges (information about the overdue import fee is sent by e-mail)

SMS scams

  • Surcharge for the package
  • No data for shipment
  • Incorrect address

Of course, to protect yourself against fraud, first of all you need to be vigilant. Always check the identity of the person calling us. Do not click on suspicious links or respond to suspicious text messages.
