Poland against Te and Shein. The government demands action
Six European Union countries, including Poland, are demanding action against online sales platforms Temu and Shein.
Six European Union member states, including Poland, have sent an official letter to the European Commission. In it, they demand action against the websites Temu and Shein, which are alleged to be violating European law.
If violations of the law are not rigorously detected and punished, it will harm consumers and create an imbalance with law-abiding suppliers. To ensure fair competition and consumer protection in the EU, it is crucial that manufacturers and e-commerce platforms, including from third countries, strictly enforce compliance with applicable EU rules.
– we read in the letter, which was made available to journalists.
Poland against Te and Shein
What is it about? Both ago and Shein are classified as very large online platforms, so they must comply with the Digital Services Act. TMeanwhile, Germany, Poland, Denmark, France, the Netherlands and Austria believe that the activities of both websites are not entirely consistent with applicable regulations.
The above-mentioned countries demand, among other things, the collection of data on specific violations and then enforcement of the provisions of the Digital Services Act on this basis. This is probably about trade in counterfeits and uncertified products.
Consumer organizations also accuse Chinese platforms of manipulating consumers, including through unclear promotions. One of the allegations also concerns the incorrect implementation of the Omnibus directive, which obliges online sales platforms to present the lowest price from the last 30 days before the promotion. Meanwhile, both platforms argue that they operate in accordance with applicable regulations.
