Players complain and then choose anyway. The test revealed the truth

Almost every text about image scaling techniques includes a comment that it is an artificially generated image that has nothing to do with the natively rendered quality. In theory, this argument may make sense, but in practice it is difficult to defend. NVIDIA DLSS can look even better in many cases. The latest test showed it perfectly.

NVIDIA DLSS better than native image

The computerbase.de editorial team decided to conduct a blind test. They invited as many as 1,000 players. They had one task – to assess the image quality in games. There were three options – native, scaled by NVIDIA DLSS and scaled by AMD FSR. A blind test means they didn’t know which option was active at any given time. The test was conducted on 6 games:

  • Anna 117
  • ARC Riders
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Satisfactory
  • The Last from Us Part II

What were the results? Certainly surprising for many. As much as 48.2 percent players found the image generated by NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 to be the best. In second place, with a score of 24 percent, was natively rendered graphics. In turn, AMD FSR gained 15 percent. votes. The remaining 12.8 percent was unable to make a decision. In some games, e.g. Satisfactory, as much as 60.9 percent. people chose DLSS.

In no scenario did the natively generated graphics outperform NVIDIA’s technique. The closest to this was in Cyberpunk 2077, where DLSS scored 34.4%. votes, and the native image 32.4 percent. This only shows that gamers often complain for the sake of complaining, without even checking the solutions offered by the latest graphics cards.
