The video game market is wide and deep. This raises the question of what genres are currently the most popular and what impact this may have on the future of the industry.

The pool of people interested in digital entertainment is growing every year revenues from the video game market are growing at a noticeable pace. Interestingly, the companies’ main revenues do not come from the sale of the games themselves, but from additional payments – DLC, skins, season passes, boxes with random content, etc.

Young people prefer online PvP

Of course, the number of consumers in the world is finite and their time for gaming is limited. This makes it it’s getting harder and harder for new titles to break through. AAA productions still chase the success of the profitable live-service model, however single-player games remain most people’s favorite form of entertainment.

According to the MIDiA report, as many as 53% of all players prefer single-player productions. This is, of course, highly dependent on age. The youngest consumers definitely prefer online PvP games. However, this trend clearly decreases in people aged 35-44, only deepening in the groups 45-54 and 55+.

CO-OP games are also very populari.e. titles that allow you to play in a smaller group with a friend or partner. Often in local mode, not online. The oldest players are least likely to use this type of production.

What does the future of video games hold? My grandmother told fortunes in two. On the one hand, young generations suggest a move towards multiplayer. On the other hand, the current costs of game production are astronomically high, reaching even hundreds of millions of dollars. And here “Live service” titles have a big disadvantage – they require continued support long after the premiere and maintenance of serversand this means additional expenses.
