The pre-Christmas period is a particularly intense time for many people. We often look for gifts for our loved ones. Fraudsters are trying to take advantage of this and are intensifying their efforts. Therefore, we must be especially careful about special occasions. PKO Bank Polski warns how to recognize fake online stores.
PKO BP warns customers
PKO BP published an article in which it warns all customers against fake online stores. These operate all year round, but there are a lot of them before Christmas because fraudsters know that we are looking for gifts for our loved ones. What should we pay special attention to?
If you receive an incentive to make a purchase (often packaged as an extremely attractive offer) via social media or via e-mail or text message, it is worth being careful. These are popular ways for cybercriminals to catch potential victims. When using search engines, you should be aware that after entering your passwords, they may link you not only to popular, honest online stores, but also to websites managed by criminals who also promote their websites in search engines.
– warns PKO BP.
The bank also draws attention to particularly attractive, even unbelievable, product prices. If we come across one, there is a good chance it is a scamwhich aims to deprive us of financial resources because we will never receive the ordered product. If something is too good to be true, it probably isn’t true.
In addition, it is also worth examining a given store thoroughly before deciding to purchase. We can check a given company in popular registers, e.g. KRS and CEIDG. It will also be a good practice to check contact information, payment methods, and regulations, which are often full of inaccuracies in fake stores. Of course, you should also pay attention to the URL itself, which is often the most obvious indicator of fraud.
I can also add the ability to check stores in popular services for this purpose, e.g. Truspilot and ScamAdvisor. From them you can often find out whether a given store is reliable.
