The pre-Christmas period is a time of increased shopping for many people. Not only were there annual Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, but we were also looking for gifts for our loved ones. Unfortunately, it is also a time of greater activity of cybercriminals who try to get access to our money in every possible way. On this occasion, PKO Bank Polski reminds about the 10 basic principles of cybersecurity.

PKO BP warns

An entry appeared on the official PKO BP Facebook profile in which the bank reminds its customers not to help themselves be robbed. It leads to a special website where users can test their knowledge in a special quiz, which is also intended to make them aware of the dangers lurking online.

At the same time, PKO BP reminds us of 10 basic rules that will significantly minimize the risk of becoming a victim of fraud. These rules are:

  1. Protect your data — don’t brag about your new driving license, ID or payment card online. On this basis, fraudsters can obtain data that they will then use in their activities.
  2. Keep your antivirus up to date
  3. Always set strong passwords — less than half of users use strong passwords. Those that can be broken in just a few seconds are still popular. It is important to use different passwords for different services and sites and to change them regularly.
  4. Don’t forget to log out
  5. Be careful when using online banking — the bank reminds that it never asks for passwords, logins, card PIN or installing additional applications on the phone or computer.
  6. Never visit suspicious websites
  7. Beware of messages and links of unknown origin
  8. Always create a backup
  9. Beware of fake news
  10. Remember – it is never too late to educate yourself

PKO BP also reminds the most popular methods of operation of fraudsters. These include impersonating a bank employee or asking friends (whose account has been taken over) for an urgent transfer. These are often phishing attacks via SMS or e-mail, as well as fake banking websites. This is worth remembering.
