PKO BP insists that customers use keys. We explain

PKO BP is another bank that introduces logging in using Yubikey security keys in Poland. This is an additional layer of security that protects our account and finances. The bank recommends the use of this tool to all its clients.

PKO BP introduces security keys

A security key is a small device in the form of a pendrive that provides an additional layer of protection for our account. Without it, you cannot log in to the website or the iPKO mobile application.

Thanks to this security, you can be sure that no one will log in to your website, even if they know your login and password. Remember, keep the key out of reach of others.

The key replaces other forms of additional login confirmation, including: confirmation in the IKO application, SMS code or code from the one-time code card. The device will also protect us against logging in to fake websites impersonating PKO BP.

This security works by requiring the cooperation of two keys – public and private. The public one is embedded in the website you want to log in to, and the private one is stored in your security key. With a security key, you can only successfully log in to the site to which you previously added the security key.

PKO BP supports Yubico keys. The list of compatible models includes the following models that support the FIDO U2F and FIDO2 standards:

• Yubico YubiKey 5 NFC (USB-A)
• Yubico YubiKey 5C NFC (USB-C)
• Yubico Security Key NFC by Yubico (USB-A)
• Yubico Security Key C NFC by Yubico (USB-C)
• YubiKey 5Ci (USB-C and Lightning)

How to add a security key in PKO BP?

To add a security key, select the appropriate model and then log in to the website on a computer browser or mobile application. In the next step, you must select Settings → Access and security → Security keys and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

If you lose your key, you must inform your bank to change the login confirmation tool and delete the key.
