Half a million players simultaneously

Path of Exile 2 is an action RPG in the style of Diablo, and the premiere of the game – although in the form of early access – heated the Internet to red. The title has already sold over a million copies and has reached almost 500,000 simultaneously logged in players. PoE 2 will eventually be released in a free-to-play model, and currently early access costs the equivalent of $30 (approx. PLN 125).

Such popularity has even overwhelmed the game’s creators, who warn of potentially long queues during the launch weekend (December 7-8, 2024). “We didn’t expect there would even be over a million players online, but we have already ordered more cloud infrastructure and these servers should be available soon.” – said Grinding Gear Games co-founder Jonathan Rogers.

“We don’t know how our infrastructure will react to exceeding one million users. We can’t predict how popular our game will become. We never dreamed that our game would be so popular during early access.”

This weekend may prove to be a real test of players’ patience, but at least the developers are honest and the situation should improve soon. This is very important for the further success of the project, because after leaving early access, the game will switch completely to a free-to-play model.

Path of Exile 2 can be played on PC on Steam, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 as part of early access by purchasing the so-called Early Access Supporter Pack.
