Nintendo has officially admitted that the successor to the Switch console is fast approaching. The Japanese revealed several details about it.

We are still waiting for the presentation of the new Nintendo console, which everyone calls Switch 2. If the current rumors are true, it should take place at the beginning of the new year. However, the Japanese have already confirmed that the console is being developed and, in addition, revealed a few things about it.
Nintendo confirms the successor to the Switch
Nintendo’s official Twitter profile published an entry in which the company confirms the existence of the Switch’s successor. Maybe there is no surprise in this, but such an announcement before the official presentation of the device seems to be at least unusual.
During today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that the Nintendo Switch software will also be available on the successor to the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will also be available on the Nintendo Switch successor. Further information about the Nintendo Switch successor, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.

Thus, the Japanese practically confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2, if the console is called that, will be backwards compatible with the first Switch. There is no surprise here either, because such rumors have been circulating for a long time, but now we can be practically sure of it. Such an announcement may also have another purpose. In this way, Nintendo wants to assure players that they can buy new games because they will also play them on the future console.
Nintendo Switch 2 will probably debut in the first quarter of 2025. The console is to be equipped with NVIDIA components, including a graphics system with the NVIDIA Ampere architecture, known from the GeForce RTX 30 series.
