New NVIDIA Blackwell chips delayed. They have a flaw

New NVIDIA Blackwell chips to be delayed by about 3 months. It turns out they have a design flaw.

NVIDIA customers will not be happy. It turns out that the new Blackwell series chips have a design flaw that the company was previously unaware of. For this reason, shipping of ordered chips may be delayed by up to 3 months.

NVIDIA Blackwell has a design flaw

The problem turned out to be the processor matrix that connects the two GPUs in the GB200 chip. The flaw was discovered by TSMC, which produces the chips in its factories. Because of this, NVIDIA had to change the design, which in turn forces new production tests before starting mass production. As an alternative, NVIDIA is said to be considering creating systems with one GPU (instead of two).

This is a huge problem for many companies that have placed orders for GB202 chips. The list includes Google, which is waiting for the delivery of as many as 400,000 units worth a total of $10 billion. Meta placed a similar order. Microsoft, in turn, bought 55-65 thousand defective models for OpenAI, which were supposed to be ready in the first quarter of 2025. Now it is not known whether the deadlines will be met.

Meanwhile, other companies are trying to steal some of the AI market from NVIDIA. AMD and Intel, among others, have stepped up their efforts in this segment.
