New consoles coming next year. This is what the head of AMD says
Next-generation consoles will again use AMD components. This is no surprise. Both PlayStation and Xbox have been cooperating with Reds for years. This allows AMD to know when new consoles may hit the market. Lisa Su, the company’s CEO, revealed just that while discussing the financial results for the fourth quarter of 2025.
New Xbox in 2027?
Lisa Su admitted that in 2026 they expect lower revenues from the sale of their SoC systems as the consoles enter the 7th year of their lives. However, next year is expected to be better in this respect, among other things due to the premiere of the new Xbox.
From a product perspective, Valve is on track to start shipping its AMD-based Steam Machine computers early this year. Development of Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console, powered by an AMD SoC, is progressing well, leading to a 2027 launch.
Such reports may be surprising. The huge crisis on the component market significantly hampers the introduction of new equipment to the market. Consoles also use RAM or SSD drives, and the situation does not seem to improve until next year.
Therefore, there was information that PlayStation and Xbox may delay their plans. This would make a lot of sense, because otherwise we might have a premiere only on paper. What do players need from a new console that will be extremely expensive and poorly available?
However, it should be noted that while AMD may be ready for the premiere of the new Xbox in 2027, this does not automatically mean that Microsoft will be ready. The Redmond company may still postpone the introduction of the console to the market, despite the fully ready product.
