New AMD processors tested. Nothing special
Although the new AMD processors have not yet debuted on the market, they have already reached the first reviewers. However, the performance leaves much to be desired.
During the event AIPC Innovation Summit, which took place in March in China, AMD revealed that he was preparing new processors. We are talking about units for the socket AMD AM5as well as the older one AM4. In both cases, the idea is to refresh and expand current series with cheaper models.
AMD is trying to get rid of defective silicon
Mentioned, among others: CPU like AMD Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400Fwhich is based on architecture AMD Zen4. As the name suggests, they are deprived of an integrated graphics unit (iGPU). And although the mentioned processors have not had their premiere yet, their first tests have already appeared in China.
AMD Ryzen 5 8400F is 6-core and 12-thread a unit operating at a base clock speed of 4.2 GHz and up to 4.75 GHz in turbo mode. And Ryzen 7 8700F is 8-core and 16-thread processor clocked at 4.1/5.05 GHz. In both cases, we are talking about 16 MB of L3 cache TDP at 65 W.
Chinese tests were carried out in benchmarks – CPU-Z, Cinebench R23 and Master LU, but no attempt was made to check gaming performance. The systems were compared with their closest counterparts in terms of specifications that are already available on the market – AMD Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 7500F.
Conclusions? AMD Ryzen 7 8700F is about 1-2% slower from Ryzen 7 8700G, while AMD Ryzen 5 8400F is about 7% weaker from Ryzen 5 7500F. However, it should be remembered that the suggested price of the new CPUs has not been revealed. And it will decide about profitability and the final assessment.
Moreover, both AMD Ryzen 5 8400F and AMD Ryzen 7 8700F will probably debut officially only in China. AMD, under the guise of “cheaper CPUs”, simply wants to get rid of CPU-based units defective silicon with a faulty iGPU. So we don't really have anything to cry about.
