It was mostly Netflix struggling

As an event advertised for months, The Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight was supposed to be a great event and also a test for Netflix. Unfortunately the VOD giant has nothing to celebratebecause viewers couldn’t invest their emotions too much in the fight, a instead, they fought the Netflix stream.

Unfortunately, the infrastructure turned out to be insufficient and users, instead of enjoying the match, they were frustrated by the stuttery stream of very poor quality, with the buffering icon constantly appearing. Every now and then sound was lost from the broadcast, the image froze, and after attempts to refresh the stream, the video ran in slow motion.

The fight was ultimately won by YouTuber Jake Paul, but the biggest loser isn’t Mike Tyson, it’s Netflix. To make matters worse, Netflix has invested huge amounts of money in WWE Raw wrestling broadcasts, which are scheduled to launch in January 2025.

If Netflix doesn’t find a way to improve the quality and performance of its live streams by then, the company will be in huge trouble.
