Microsoft harasses Google Chrome users with ads

Users of the Google Chrome browser report unusual ads displayed to them in Windows 10 and 11. Although at first glance they look like a scam, the Redmond company confirmed that they are real.

The ads are unusual in that they appear while using the Google Chrome browser. Users were also concerned about the fact that they were not of the highest quality. Many people thought it was some kind of scam, but it wasn’t. Microsoft decided to advertise its services to users of a competing browser.

In the ads, Microsoft encourages users to use the Bing search engine as well as GPT-4. If someone agrees to this, the search engine in Chrome will automatically be changed and the Bing Service plug-in will be installed. Interestingly, Chrome has protection against this type of changes, so it will display a message whether you are sure about this decision. Microsoft has also been clever here and displays its own pop-up asking for and saving changes.
