Media: Netflix is considering introducing a free plan
The topic was to be raised by managers from the company’s European branches who are afraid of competition from the television industry.
It cannot be denied that Netflix has been systematically becoming more expensive in recent years. However, the light at the end of the tunnel for those who save money is the recently introduced ad-supported plan, which, as we know, allows viewers from some countries to leave some money in their pockets at the expense of viewing marketing content.
The thing is, the ad-supported plan is still not free. It costs only EUR 5.99, instead of EUR 13.49 like Standard, but the consumer still has to pay. European managers of the company, as reported by the website Tom’s Guidethey have to question such a business model.
Journalist David Douieb claims that one of those involved told him that behind the scenes there is a debate about introducing a completely free plan. This would be intended especially for those markets where partially free SVOD services belonging to popular TV broadcasters, but not only them, have a strong position.
– Executives have discussed the possibility of creating a free version of the service in much larger markets, particularly those with popular free television networks where the company also sells advertising – we read.
According to Douieb, YouTube, in addition to linear broadcasters, is also becoming an increasing challenge for Netflix. It doesn’t seem to offer high-budget films and series, at least not officially, but it still engages millions of viewers. Potentially leaving money with Netflix.
