mBank has an urgent message. It affects millions of people
Criminals use various methods to steal our money. mBank warns against fraudsters who impersonate our friends or loved ones and ask us for a loan.
In times when almost everything can be done online, criminals have even more ways to steal or extort money. One approach starts with taking over a social media account. Then, fraudsters send messages to selected people from the friends list on such an account, for example family members, private messages asking for a loan.
People impersonating friends or relatives justify an unusual request with a sudden need, such as a lost payment card or an urgent expense. If we fulfill such a request, the money will not go where we expect it to.
If you receive a request to send money or enter a BLIK code, be vigilant. Otherwise, your money will go to fraudsters.
– warns mBank
You should be careful whenever you receive a loan request via social media messages. The person on the other end does not have to be who they say they are. In such a situation, it is worth verifying it in a different way. This also applies to cases when a buyer or someone who pretends to be an employee of a sales portal asks us to enter the BLIK code to verify our account. Criminals can also impersonate bank employees or police officers during telephone conversations, who will try to extort money or a BLIK code from us under various pretexts. In any case, this is obviously a scam.
Don't get robbed!
If you don't want your money to go to fraudsters, remember:
- the BLIK code is used only to perform transactions from the account,
- whenever you receive a request to borrow money via messenger, call the sender and make sure he needs your help – this way you can expose the fraudster,
- a bank employee or policeman will never ask you for your BLIK code,
- during each conversation with an mBank employee, you will receive mobile confirmation of the employee's identity,
- Before you accept the operation, please read the authorization notification carefully.
