Almost all streaming services want to follow in the footsteps of Netflix, which was the first to declare war on account sharing on a large scale. Although users strongly criticized this approach, it did not affect the company’s results. On the contrary, Netflix is doing very well. This turned out to be an encouragement to others. Now Max, formerly HBO Max, is taking this path.

Max struggles with sharing accounts

During the press conference, Warner Bros., the company that owns the Max streaming service, announced that in the next few months it will start fighting against account sharing. Initially, users will see subtle messages informing them about the changes, but over time the measures will become more drastic.

Max is to take the fight against account sharing seriously in 2025 and 2026. Chief Financial Officer of Warner Bros. Discovery Gunnar Widenfels announced that we will have to pay extra for additional users on our accounts. He does not rule out that the price of access to the service itself will be increased, because he believes that there is still plenty of room for it.

Max has a total of 110.5 million subscribers worldwide. In Poland, the service costs PLN 19.99 per month for the basic package, PLN 29.99 for the standard package and PLN 49.99 for the premium package, which allows, among other things, viewing in 4K and Dolby Atmos.
