MacBooks with mobile connectivity for the first time in history
As noted insider Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports, the Cupertino giant is considering introducing a 5G communication system to Mac computersand the earliest this could happen is 2026. At the beginning of 2025, Apple is to introduce a 5G chip of its own production and it will go to devices such as iPhone 17 Air, budget iPad and iPhone SE.
In this way, Apple wants to test whether the new communication system will work in practice, and then wants to use it in its flagships and potentially – Mac computers. MacBooks with a 5G modem could connect directly to the cellular network without the need to create a hotspot on an iPad or iPhone.
The first generation of Apple’s 5G chips will be limited to 5G in the sub-6Hz band, while subsequent generations will gain support for mmWave technology, which is faster.
Apple expects to surpass Qualcomm with its third generation of connectivity chips, offering better performance and AI features. The ultimate goal of the Cupertino giant is to move away from Qualcomm and replace it with its own 5G systems.
