living in France is a great plan, but not for everyone

A study reveals that France is the sixth country where the gigabyte of mobile data is the cheapest, but there are strong disparities between mainland France and overseas territories.

You are rich… at least in GB. If a few years ago, you had to pay up to several tens of euros to have enough data on your mobile plan, the market has changed a lot. Today, a fixed price of around fifteen euros from your operator gives you more data than you probably use, even without limiting yourself. A situation that is almost an exception, since the GB of mobile data is cheaper in France than in the vast majority of other countries around the world.

23 cents: this is the average price of a GB of mobile data in France

The financial product comparator HelloSafe carried out a study on the price of mobile data around the world, based on a sample of 5,000 mobile plans around the world. We learn that the average price of a GB of mobile data in France is 23 cents.

This makes the country the sixth most affordable Go there, behind Israel (4 cents) in first place and Italy (12 cents) and Fiji (15 cents) to complete the podium. It is very affordable compared to the world average: 3.12 euros.

Inequalities still present, including in France

On the other hand, there are countries where just 1 GB is extremely expensive. The most expensive country is São Tomé and Príncipe: 29.48 euros. Behind him, Yemen at 16.57 euros followed by Botswana at 15.54 euros. Poor countries or countries at war, with considerably low wages, therefore, these tariffs are not at all affordable.

It is more generally Africa that suffers from these prices, with an average price of 4.04 euros per GB, just ahead of Oceania with an average price of 3.91 euros.

In addition, there are still inequalities within the French territory, since the overseas territories are significantly more expensive than in mainland France. As HelloSafe specifies, the average price of GB was 5.71 euros in 2019 overseas.

Today, it is no longerthat» 1.71 euros, which represents a drop of 66.7% in three years. The most expensive region remains New Caledonia: 5.17 euros per GB on average last year.
