its new urban electric bike has two big recent innovations
The German brand Riese & Muller has lifted the veil on new Culture, a primarily urban electric bike, as part of ProDays 2023. CssTricks was able to see it in person.
Riese & Muller is a German company known and recognized for its expertise in electric bicycles. Witness the very good Charger4 GT Vario that we were able to test. In this month of July 2023, the firm from across the Rhine is strengthening its catalog of urban VAE with its new Culture, presented at ProDays 2023, in Paris.
The Culture comes in two versions: one with a closed frame, the other with an open frame that makes getting on and off your mount easier. The great novelty is especially at the level of the engine: this model indeed embeds the very last engine of Bosch, the famous Performance Line SX.
Performance Line SX and Shimano Cues
This drive unit is intended for three families of electric bikes: light VTTAE, gravel and urban. It has the advantage of combining lightness and dynamism, with a weight of around 2 kg for a maximum power of 600 W and a torque of 55 Nm. In short, a good balance that is very interesting on paper.

The choice of transmission is also interesting. One is based on a carbon belt associated with a continuously variable transmission, the other is none other than a Shimano Cues, the new range from the Japanese manufacturer presented in March 2023. As a reminder, it aims to replace the Alivia, Acera, Altus and Deore groups to a lesser extent.
A balanced bike on paper
Here, we are probably dealing with the 10-speed U6000 Series model, on the high frame model exhibited at the show. Shimano Cues feature LINKGLIDE technology, which provides smoother, smoother shifting and longer lasting components – up to three times longer.
These transmissions also benefit from taller and thicker cassette teeth, which provides more surface area for the chain. A way for Shimano to reduce the risk of chain skipping and derailment.

In addition to the more than coarse weld creases – but Riese & Muller does not officially make great efforts on this point –, the technical sheet is solid on paper: Magura hydraulic disc brakes, Schwalbe Big Ben tires, Selle Royal Essenza, Remote LED to manage assistance levels or MIK HD luggage rack (27 kg).
An unknown price
At the moment, we do not yet know the price of this Riese & Muller Culture. We still expect elitist prices. Three colors will make up the range: Blue, Pink and Sand.
