Is TikTok running out of time? It has to work very fast now
TikTok has less and less time to save its operations in the United States. Last week, an appeals court in California rejected the request of the owner of the popular application, ByteDance, to postpone the blocking of the application. This is to enter into force on January 19 next year.

Time is running out for TikTok
TikTok’s owner hoped that the appeals court would give him more time to fight for his rights before the US Supreme Court, which will ultimately determine whether the planned blocking of the video application is consistent with local law.
However, the appeals court found no reason to suspend the actions planned by the government to protect the data of over 170 million TikTok users in the US. Local the authorities fear that ByteDance may cooperate with the Chinese authorities and services by using users’ personal data.
TikTok was given an ultimatum
A few months ago, the owner of TikTok received an ultimatum. Either it sells the application to a company that has no roots in China, thus eliminating the risk of potential user data leakage, or it will be blocked in the US. ByteDance did not decide to sell and started fighting in court. After failures in the first instance and now in the appellate court, the only salvation may be the American Supreme Court.
The owner of TikTok announces a fight for “one of the most popular free speech platforms in the USA for over 170 million Americans”, as he calls his application.
On January 19, outgoing US President Joe Biden will decide to block the application or give its owner 3 months to sell it, or, of course, fight it in the Supreme Court. Biden was one of the main sponsors of the bill enabling the blocking of applications, so experts expect that one of his last decisions as president will maintain the blocking.
However, it is not known how his successor will react. Donald Trump himself tried to restrict TikTok during his first term, but recently he has changed his tone.
