Is this the ultimate mouse? Lamzu Maya X 8K test
Players have always been looking for the best equipment that will maximize their results. It’s almost like chasing the Holy Grail. Which keyboard is the best? Which headphones should I choose? These are questions that are asked very often. However, from a player’s perspective, there is one accessory that is particularly important. It is a mouse.
As I mentioned in the introduction, there is no perfect mouse. Although the word “perfect” is not appropriate here. There is no universal mouse – that would be more precise. Because even the perfect rodent will not be perfect for everyone. Our habits are of great importance, but above all our genetics. This includes hand size, finger length and preferred grip. Despite this, Lamzu Maya X 8K, even if it is not ideal, is very close to it.
Specification
Lamzu Maya X is a mouse that looks inconspicuous at first glance. However, just look at its specifications to realize that it is a model created with demanding players in mind. The basis of the device is the PixArt PAW3950 optical sensor, which is probably the best sensor currently on the market, and certainly one of the top ones that can be found in rodents available on the market.
It is characterized by a maximum sensitivity of 30,000. DPI, although it is known that no one in their right mind uses such values. In addition, there is a reporting frequency of up to 8000 Hz, acceleration up to 70 G and a maximum speed of up to 750 IPS, or 19.05 meters per second. In turn, LOD, i.e. Lift-off distance, can be set to 0.7, 1 or 2 mm.
In addition, the mouse is equipped with a Nordic nRF52840 microcontroller, which of course supports a refresh rate of 8000 Hz, as well as Omron D2FP-FN2 switches (lifetime of 70 million activations) under the main buttons. The accessory has dimensions of 124 × 64 × 40 mm and weighs only 45-47 grams. It connects to the computer wirelessly using the included receiver. If necessary, it can also be connected with a traditional USB-C cable, which is also used to charge the built-in battery, but then the reporting drops to a maximum of 1000 Hz.
Construction and ergonomics
Lamzu Maya X 8K is completely unremarkable in terms of design, at least at first glance. It looks downright boring. Is this a defect? Absolutely not. What’s more, it’s a huge advantage. The manufacturer did not strive for uniqueness, which is completely unnecessary in this segment of equipment. The rodent has to be simple, comfortable and light. Without unnecessary extras and combinations. This is not jewelry that is meant to look like it. This is a tool that is intended to help us play as effectively as possible.
Only when you look at the bottom of the accessory can you see a big difference from more popular solutions. The rodent can be said to have an open structure. From the bottom we can see almost the entire interior, including the PCB. Why so? Probably out of a desire to get as little weight as possible. However, it is impossible to ignore a quite obvious disadvantage, i.e. the greater susceptibility of key elements to possible dirt.
The symmetrical design and universal shape make the Lamzu Maya X 8K suitable for each of the three most popular grips, i.e. Palm, Claw and Fingertip Grip. In turn, the weight of only 45-47 grams means that you do not feel tired even during long sessions. I used to be a supporter of heavier mice, but I gave up on that a long time ago. Contrary to appearances, lightness gives greater control and precision.
There are a total of 6 Teflon sliders (PTFE) on the bottom. They are rather average in thickness, but thanks to them, moving the mouse is very light, smooth and pleasant. If they wear out, a spare set is included.
In terms of build quality, I have no complaints. Of course, we are dealing here with plastic, but it is of solid quality and fits well. The buttons and the roller wobble sideways to a minimum, which does not affect the gameplay in any way. However, the switches used give a quite sharp but very pleasant feeling with immediate feedback. I often complain about the keys being too soft, especially the side ones. There is no such problem here. Scroll is also pleasant with very precise jumps and a tactile pressure.
However, I consider the button to change DPI on the fly to be a disadvantage. It is located at the bottom of the device, so quickly changing the sensitivity during the game is very difficult. It is also worth mentioning the small LED diode, which is located on the left side of the mouse, just below the manufacturer’s logo. It has two simple tasks. First, by blinking to let you know that your battery is almost out of power. Secondly, the color informs about the current DPI (we can adjust it ourselves in the settings). Although the diode is small, it is very visible. It’s on the left side, so right-handed people are unlikely to miss the message.
Software
The software is something that definitely distinguishes the tested mouse. Why? Because it doesn’t really exist. This does not mean that we cannot change the mouse settings. We can, but via a dedicated website. You don’t need to install anything on your computer, so no application runs in the background. In turn, the mentioned website gives us access to all the most important functions, including:
- assigning functions to individual buttons
- macro settings
- DPI settings, including the number of levels we want to have
- reporting frequency settings from 500 to 8000 Hz
- Lift-off Distance settings
- sleep time settings (for energy saving)
- debounce time settings
- factory reset settings
Usage and battery
When it comes to use, I can only speak highly of it. Playing on the Lamzu Maya X 8K is pure pleasure. The precision is amazing, but this is no surprise, because we are talking about one of the best optical sensors on the market. The buttons provide quick response, and the sliders give us great control over precision. There are no undesirable phenomena here. In this respect, we are dealing with an absolutely top design.
Lamzu Maya X 8K is equipped with a 300 mAh battery. In practice, it provides energy for approximately 80 hours of use at a reporting frequency of 1000 Hz and approximately 15 hours at 8000 Hz. These are neither great nor bad results. I used the 2000 Hz setting most of the time because I found it sufficient, so in practice the rodent needs to be charged every few days. Not a bad result, but there are better models in this respect.
Summary
Lamzu Maya X is certainly one of the best gaming mice on the market. It’s hard to point out any major flaws in it, because there simply aren’t any. The universal shape makes it fit in the hands of most players. However, I will be far from recommending it to everyone.
Compared to the Razer Deathadder V4 Pro model recently tested by Przemek or the Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 mouse I previously used, it is very similar, although it is slightly lighter than them. The choice really comes down to individual preferences. The price is also important. Lamzu Maya X 8K costs approximately PLN 499. We will get the above-mentioned Logitech for the same amount. Razer, on the other hand, costs around PLN 599.
At this point, I would choose Lamzu Maya X 8K. For me, this is the best mouse I have ever tested. However, this is my subjective opinion, determined by personal preferences. Objectively speaking, Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 will be an equally good choice.
