iPhone will get encrypted RSC messages
Early stage testing
The Cupertino giant refused to implement the RCS standard for years. This was explained by the lack of appropriate security measures. Now the latter is slowly changing, and the proof is the test version of iOS 26.4. There is support for end-to-end encryption.
The current implementation does not solve the original problem. RCS encrypted messages only work between two Apple smartphones. Communication with users of Android devices still takes place without this protection.
Changes to settings
The new option is based on one requirement. Message encryption in the new standard is only activated when you turn off the iMessage service. Testers see a lock icon during such conversations.
The manufacturer issued a statement on this matter. Apple has confirmed that the feature will not be included in the stable version of iOS 26.4. It will be made available in one of the future updates. Unfortunately, there is no exact time frame here.
Work on the profile
The GSMA published the RCS Universal Profile 3.0 documentation last year. It provides guidelines for data encryption across platforms. This forms the basis for securing the exchange of information between iOS and Android systems.
The commenced tests confirm development work on this technology. However, extending the functionality to competitor systems will take time. Full implementation of the novelty will probably not take place in 2026. The universal service will certainly debut only in the next generations, for example on iPhone 19 series devices.
