Intel gave partners time until May 31, 2024

An in-depth analysis showed that the problem is not the CPU or any other component in the computer. The blame lies with motherboard manufacturers and their BIOSes. Companies such as ASUS, GIGABYTE and MSI changed the default limits and disabled a number of protections in order to offer several percent higher performance.

What does it mean? For example, the flagship Intel Core i9-14900K units had power limit set to 4096 W instead of 253 W. In addition, solutions such as: Current Excursion Protection, Turbo Velocity Boost Whether Enhanced Turbo Velocity Boost. All this reduced the stability of the PC.

Intel gives an ultimatum. Time is until the end of May

Various sources, including: Igor's LAB and Saraba1st editorial offices claim that Intel has given an ultimatum to manufacturers of motherboards and finished computers. They are intended to offer a BIOS profile with default PL1 and PL2 limits, named “Intel Default Settings”which will be set by default (can be changed by the user).

What does this mean for users? Minimal drop in performance (several %)while maintaining full stability and lower power consumption and lower temperatures. This will be useful especially for laymen. Enthusiasts often modify the BIOS on their own anyway. Whether for overclocking (OC) or undervolting (UV).
