New Intel Core Ultra 5 with first tests. It's surprisingly bad

Intel finally listened to consumers. It will follow in the footsteps of AMD

Intel has been facing criticism from PC enthusiasts over the years short socket life. While AMD since 2017, it has been developing its platforms based on just two sockets, AM4 and AM5, Intel has introduced as many as four different ones at the same time, and another one will soon join them.

LGA 1954 has the potential to support as many as four generations of CPUs

During a conversation with the Club386 editorial team, he commented on the matter Robert Hallockwho emphasized that Intel has undergone an internal transformation and today a completely new team is responsible for the development of processors for gamers:

One thing I really want everyone to understand is that me and my team are enthusiasts first and foremost. Each of us built our own computer and played on it. This wasn’t always the case at Intel.

However, we have a new product management team, a new business team, new marketing, and new gaming CPU engineers. We also do not ignore user opinions. We follow them very closely. We are able to implement some of these comments within 6 months, 1 year or 3 years. We listen and these opinions are of great importance. They really influence how we think about our products and plans.

These words can be interpreted as a clear signal that Intel wants to get closer to the model known from AMDwhere one socket can support many generations of processors. Against this background, Intel has fared much worse so far. Even if LGA 1700 supported three generations of processors, the last one was only a refresh, not a new architecture. Meanwhile, it is the big architectural changes that bring the biggest performance leaps.

The current generation Arrow Lake is already using the new stand LGA 1854but its future is limited. This time, even Refresh will be small, because it will include two models – Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus. And the successors in the form of Nova Lake have already used LGA 1954.

And it is quite probable that this platform will be the first “long-lasting” one made by the Blues. There are plans for further systems, such as: Razer Lake, Titan Lake or Hammer Lake. And for now, there is no indication that it will be necessary to switch to DDR6 or PCIe 6.0 in the coming years, which further increases the chances of a longer life for LGA 1954.
