Intel Core i9-14900KS scalped. The benefits are great
As suspected, the Intel Core i9-14900KS is an extremely efficient, but also hot processor. Delid and efficient water cooling is a must.
The premiere of the newest and most powerful Blue processor is just around the corner. Intel Core i9-14900KS it will go on sale next week, to be more precise March 14, 2024. The first units are in the hands of selected reviewers and overclockers, and there is more and more pre-release information on the Internet.
The Intel Core i9-14900KS is extremely efficient and hot
Intel Core i9-14900KS is a 24-core and 32-thread processor that runs at up to 6.2 GHz by TDP 150 W. We are talking about a combination of 8 large, high-performance cores with 16 small, energy-saving ones. The whole thing has been prepared for motherboards with a socket LGA 1700.
Of course, under 100% load, the new CPU consumes much more power. That’s why a user of the Overclock.net forum with the nickname “pakhtunov” decided to delid your copy. We are talking about removing the IHS (metal heat sink) from the silicon core of the processor.
In the case of Cinebench R23, temperatures dropped from 85°C to 75°C and power consumption dropped from 376W to 366W. The y-cruncher program mentions 89°C->82°C and 432 W -> 409 W.
Unfortunately, the score obtained in the benchmark is unreliable. Pakhtunov conducted tests with Hyper-threading disabled and the clock set to 5.9 GHz (instead of 6.2 GHz). Reason? It has a rather average DeepCool LS720SE water cooling solution, which was unable to tame this CPU.
One thing is for sure – Intel Core i9-14900KS will be the most efficient consumer processor. However, it will require a motherboard with a decent power supply section and top water cooling. We are talking about models such as Arctic Liquid Freezer III or proprietary and extensive LC systems.
