iPhone 15s expected
The iPhone 15s are particularly anticipated this year for one thing in particular: they should be the first from the brand to be equipped with a USB-C port, thus replacing the proprietary Lightning connection that Apple has long defended tooth and nail. However, the European Union will impose USB-C as the universal standard for wired charging in 2024.
Rather than waiting until the very last moment to comply with the new rule, Apple has decided to already apply it on the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Another big news for Europe: the iPhone 15s would be 100% eSIM.
Moreover, we expect some fairly logical technical developments and small modifications on the design side. The big remaining questions are as follows.
What about the supposed iPhone 15 Ultra? According to the latest news, this potential variation mentioned several times will not finally see the light of day.
How much will the iPhone 15 cost? It is currently difficult to answer this question, but there is a good chance that the price of the iPhone 15 will continue to increase compared to previous generations.
Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2
The September conference is dedicated to the iPhone ecosystem at large. It is therefore also at this event that the new Apple Watches are presented. This year, we expect a new version of the Apple Watch Ultra, and the Apple Watch Series 9.
In both cases, a radical design change should not be expected, but rather a technical update. The SoC change would be the first in space since the Apple Watch Series 6 of 2020. In particular to integrate a more efficient Apple U2 chip to locate its watch. The focus would be on a smaller environmental footprint of these new watches through more recycled materials.
AirPods would switch to USB-C
Latest element of the iPhone ecosystem: the 2nd generation True Wireless AirPods Pro earphones would also switch to USB-C. We are obviously talking about the headphone charging box which could abandon the Lightning on the evening of the conference. No other changes are expected, but Apple could touch on a word on the software update planned for this fall for its audio devices.
And the rest
The September conference is usually a time for Apple to discuss the topics most important to the company. In this great moment of marketing, the brand should in particular touch us with a few words on the importance of the environment and the planet for this company which will have just spent 90 minutes encouraging as many people as possible to consume and renew their devices. Among the expected changes, Apple could completely rethink the shells of its iPhones and the straps of its Apple Watch to avoid materials deemed cruel (leather) or too polluting.
We can also expect a few passages on the firm’s services, for example, a few trailers for new Apple TV+ content. Kind one trailer for season 2 of Severance. It’s just an example huh. But it wouldn’t be bad.
