How to close your Orange Bank account?

Closing your account in an online bank is quite simple. But this procedure still requires you to follow a few key steps so as not to make a mistake. Here’s how to close your Orange Bank account.

If you have previously opened an account with Orange Bank, but ultimately want to close it, it is possible, for whatever reason. According to Orange Bank’s general terms and conditions, you are under no obligation to keep your account open for a minimum period. You can therefore request the closure of your bank account at any time.

No need to stress before you start, because the steps are ultimately simple and fast. The important thing is to prepare well. We explain step by step the procedure to follow.

Prerequisites for terminating an Orange Bank account

Closing a bank account is not without consequence and above all the procedure is final. This is why it is essential to check a few points before sending your request to Orange Bank.

First of all, you must check that all the direct debits which were initially debited at Orange Bank are now domiciled on your new bank account. If you have just opened this account, the bank can take care of repatriating all your direct debits for you. Just ask him. Otherwise, you will have to send your new bank details to each organization that charges you.

Similarly, if you have automatic transfers, remember to delete them and set them up on your new account.

If you had taken out a loan from Orange Bank, before requesting the closure of your current account, it is essential to check that the bank accepts that you only keep credit on its lines.

As for the Livret A, if you plan to open it in another establishment, you must then ask Orange Bank to proceed with its closure and specify to which current account the funds must be transferred. Indeed, the law in force authorizes the possession of only one Livret A per person.

Finally, it is important to check the balance of the account to be closed. If it is in credit, all you have to do is send your new RIB to Orange Bank with your request to close your account and the remaining funds will then be automatically transferred. And if it is in debt, you must fund it so that the balance is at least zero.

Request the closure of your Orange Bank account

After checking that all the preliminary steps have been taken, you can finally request the closure of your Orange Bank current account. This can be carried out directly from the application and in a few clicks you’re done.

But before you start, you must gather all the documents you will need to validate your application, starting with the cover letter. This document can be written by hand or electronically, but must imperatively be dated and signed by you.

This letter must contain some mandatory information, here they are:

• the header: your surname and first name, your address, the number of the account to be closed;
• subject: termination of Orange Bank account;
• the request: “I, the undersigned XXX, hereby request the closure of the Orange Bank current account number XXXX on the grounds XXXX. I would like this closure to take place on XX/XX/XXXX (or upon receipt of this letter)”;
• if you have a bank card or a checkbook, you must add the following statement: “I hereby swear to destroy the means of payment in my possession (call them back)”;
• if the balance is in credit: “please transfer the remaining funds to the account whose bank details you will find attached”
• the date and place of writing the letter;
• your signature.

The reason in question is free. You can also highlight that the account is inactive, that you find the rates too expensive, a disappointment in the level of service or the fact that you wish to have fewer bank accounts.

Then take a photo of this letter and also download the RIB of the account to which to transfer the balance.

Also photograph your destroyed bank card and checkbook.

Now that everything is ready, all you have to do is go to the Orange Bank application, click on “Profile», then on «My requests», «Make a new request», «My account and my transactions“, and finally “Close my bank account“. A form then opens and will allow you to download your termination letter, your bank details and the photo proving the destruction of your means of payment.

One month for the closure to take effect

Once your request has been sent to Orange Bank, the establishment has 30 days to check that it has all the necessary documents and to proceed with the closure. In any case, you will receive a confirmation letter from the bank. Note that this procedure is totally free, as provided for in the general conditions of your contract.
