How Much Will Electricity Bills Increase? Up to 50 Percent

In six months, electricity bills in Poland could increase by as much as 50 percent. We must be prepared for price increases now, starting in July.

New electricity prices have been in force in Poland since July 1. The government is still freezing them, but at a higher level than before. Until now, we paid 43 groszy per kWh, and the new price is 50 groszy. In addition, distribution fees have also increased. In total, we must reckon with bills higher by about 25 percent. However, the increases will not end there – reports Gazeta.pl.

Higher electricity bills

The Energy Regulatory Office estimates that households that consume 2 MWh of energy per year will pay an average of PLN 27.46 net more per month for electricity. That’s as much as PLN 164.76 in half a year, and that’s only because the capacity fee, which is PLN 10.64 net per month, was abolished until the end of the year. Normally, the price increase would be even higher.

However, these rules only apply until the end of 2024. If the government does not prepare new proposals, electricity prices will increase again from January. URE has already approved tariffs for the five highest companies at the level of 64 groszy per kWh. According to PNB Paribas economists, this means that from next year, bills will increase by another 20 percent. In total, within six months, electricity prices will jump by as much as 50 percent.

We will probably see slight increases in electricity prices in 2025, as a compromise will be reached in cooperation with the regulator and protective measures will be maintained until market conditions allow for the release of energy prices almost painlessly for the consumer.

– say mBank experts.

This will happen assuming that the government does not prepare further shields for 2025. In addition, market energy prices may fall and then the Energy Regulatory Office may call on suppliers to reduce tariffs. It is also worth remembering that this year about 3.5 million households are eligible for support in the form of a so-called energy voucher.
