Unfortunately, the PLN 500 he transferred from the account went straight into the hands of the fraudster.

The incident was reported at the police station in Jordanów on December 4. The woman informed the police that her husband had been deceived by someone who pretended to be his good friend. As a result, money disappeared from their joint account.

Request to share the BLIK code

Via instant messenger, my husband received a message sent from a friend’s account, asking for a BLIK code for the mentioned amount. A resident of Jordanów generated the code and approved the transaction.

Too late to call

Then he called a friend. He knew nothing about the incident and denied asking for any codes. The man realized that he had fallen victim to fraud. The fraudsters first took over a friend’s account and then sent a request for a BLIK code on his behalf.

The police warn and provide ways to protect yourself against fraudsters extorting money using BLIK.

  1. When someone sends a message asking for a BLIK code, it’s good verify the sender’s identity. Just call (before confirming the transaction) to make sure whether your relative or friend is actually in need.
  2. Best do not share the generated BLIK codes with anyoneand carefully check the transaction details before confirming them.
  3. You should protect your PIN for your bank’s mobile app as well secure access to your social media account, using two-factor login authentication. Please also remember to log out of your account each time you finish using it.
