One of the employees prepared a large portion of Pancit (a Filipino fried noodle dish) to serve to his co-workers.. Unfortunately three hours after consuming it, as many as 46 people suffered food poisoningof which 26 people were hospitalized. Fortunately, everyone recovered.
After analysis, the state department of health in Maryland announced that bacteria were the culprit of the incident Staphylococcus aureuswhich are both skin bacteria and a pathogen transmitted from food by unwashed hands. If a given meal is not cooked properly or kept at temperatures between 4 and 60 degrees Celsius, bacteria and germs may multiply and, as a result, produce dangerous toxins.
S. aureus produces different kinds enterotoxins that cause toxic shock syndrome, and sometimes food poisoning, which is characterized by sudden onset of nausea, intense vomiting, abdominal pain and sometimes also diarrhea. Until these symptoms occur just one microgram is enough toxins.
NAFCO immediately issued a statement emphasizing that the incident did not take place at the plant and did not involve food distributed by the companybut in the parking lot. The company emphasized that the food it distributes meets the most stringent standards of health inspectorates and that there have been no shortcomings in their supply chain.
