He claims to have lost millions. He didn’t expect this ending
James Howells is certainly a candidate for the title of unlucky player of the year, if not of all time. The Englishman has been looking for his disk for a long time, which he claims contains bitcoins worth about 600 million pounds.

Unlucky guy of the year?
The English media wrote about the Howells case. According to his story, back in 2013 his then-partner threw the disk containing his bitcoins into the trash. Back then, they didn’t have much value, but over the years, the cryptocurrency’s valuation has increased According to the calculations of the unlucky Englishman, they would currently be worth up to 600 million pounds. It is therefore not surprising that he tries to find the disk at all costs.
The device most likely ended up in a local landfill. Howells has been seeking access to the landfill site for some time. Interestingly, the interested party himself and a group of local experts have already carried out analyzes aimed at narrowing down the potential search area to only a small part of the landfill, where this type of waste was most likely stored at the time the disc was thrown away.
He was so close already
When negotiating with the local authorities for access to the landfill, Howells offered to donate 10% of the value of the find to the needs of the local community. Unfortunately for him, during the talks, he also had subsidies offer a bribe officials. They did not allow themselves to be bribed, and this issue has just come up in the ongoing court case that the Englishman’s lawyers filed against the local authorities regarding access to the landfill. The Englishman demands in court either the right to search the garbage or compensation in the amount of 495 million pounds. However, it turns out that not only may he not be granted access to the landfill site, but he may also be punished for his corrupt offer.
There are doubts not only about access to the landfill but also about who owns the disk. According to local law, all garbage that ends up in a landfill becomes the property of the local authorities that manage the landfill.
