Have you bought a TV? You must do this or face a fine of PLN 819
We have written about it many times, but just owning a TV or radio obliges us to pay an RTV license fee. As if that were not enough, this also applies to laptops, smartphones and tablets, according to the court’s ruling. That’s why each of us is obliged to register a new TV within 14 days of purchase.
TV registration and RTV subscription
According to the regulations, after purchasing a radio or television, each of us should register the device within 14 days and then pay a radio and television license fee. It doesn’t matter whether we intend to listen to them or watch public media. The mere possibility, as the court argues, is sufficient for such an obligation to arise.
What happens if we do not register the TV? In such a case, we may face a fine of PLN 819. In the case of a radio, the amount is lower and amounts to PLN 261. Registration can be done online or at a Poczta Polska branch.
Radio and television license fees will probably become history next year. The government initially announced that public media would be entirely financed from the state budget. However, the draft amendment to the Media Act provides for the introduction of an audiovisual fee, which will be automatically collected with taxes. Therefore, it cannot be avoided and we will all pay it.
This year, the TV subscription costs PLN 9.50 per month for the radio only or PLN 30.50 per month for the TV and radio. In the case of payment for 3, 6 or 12 months in advance, the discount is 3, 4 and 10 percent, respectively.
